Action Alerts:

30% cap on income towards rent for certain persons living with HIV/AIDS A.2565/S.2664:
Limits the amount of income that persons living with clinical/symptomatic HIV or AIDS who are receiving monetary assistance for their shelter are required to contribute towards the cost of housing to be capped at 30 percent of their household income.
Elimination of Child Support Requirement A.3657/S.2091: Would eliminate the requirement that parents pursue child support as a condition for receiving subsidized child care assistance.
Increase Access to Higher Education Programs for Public Assistance Recipients:
This bill would ensure that New York State will take full advantage of federal changes to allowable work activities for public assistance recipients included in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Final Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Rule issued in February 2008.
Increase the Earned Income Disregard and Eliminate the 185% Standard of Need Cap A.1296:
The bill increases to 67% the portion of income that is disregarded when determining the grant levels provided to public assistance recipients with a dependent child or children who have earnings from employment.
Ensure Comprehensive Assesments and the Development of Career Plans for Public Assistance Recipients A.1682: This bill will ensure conprehensive assessments and the development of career plans for participants because it sets forth a definition of sustainable living wage, as well as a number of other important related elements.
